"Death is the great Teacher, stern, cold, inexorable, irresistible; whom the collected might of the world cannot stay or ward off. The breath, that parting from the lips of King or beggar, scarcely stirs the hushed air, cannot be bought, or brought back for a moment, with the wealth of Empires. What a lesson is this, teaching our frailty and feebleness, and an Infinite Power beyond us! It is a fearful lesson, that never becomes familiar. It walks through the earth in dread mystery, and lays it hands upon all. It is a universal lesson, that is read everywhere and by all men. Its message comes every year and every day. The past years are crowded with its sad and solemn mementoes; and death's finger traces its handwriting upon the walls of every human habitation." --Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma

BRIEF: Ties between Baltimore and the Ouji board SUMMARY: Not commonly known, the Ouiji board has strong ties to Baltimore. The design known today was patented here in Baltimore by Elijah Bond, although William Fuld is credited with it's design. These boards sold even today in toy and game stores are potentially much more than a mere entertainment; many have found that entities contacted via the board sometimes decide to hang around and some of these are not of the nice variety. BRIEF: Frantic, visual "echoes" of a past tragedy SUMMARY: A following train collides with an accidentally separated caboose, despite the signalman's frantic lantern waving. Phantom lights began soon after the accident and have been seen fairly regularly since. BRIEF: The spirits of a young boy and a man and woman still travel on Hacker's Creek Hill. SUMMARY: Apparitions of a small boy and that of a man and woman in a horse drawn carraige are seen on Hacker's Creek Hill in Hodgesville, WV. BRIEF: A Union Headquarters SUMMARY: The beautiful mansion was built by free and enslaved blacks. The house was built for Dr. John D. Bellamy. He was a farmer, physician and businessman.
The Bellamy family moved into their new home on the eve of the Civil War. When the Civil War battles began the family moved out of the house. The mansion was taken over by General Hawley's Federal troops during the Civil War and used as their headquarters.
