Fun
Part library, part gallery and part society, eastghost.com is a fast, totally custom powertool for the paranormal that delivers valuable information and top quality everything...at least, that's what we intend.
We strive to offer a learning, sharing, social and communication tool that supports individuals and groups interested in academic and professional pursuits including exploration, investigation, photography, geology, archaeology, architecture, and other historical and or paranormal topics.
Ongoing improvements include full access control over all content: Members can determine exactly who can and can not access their information and content. Broad Membership Levels give everyone access and opportunity to advance into unrestricted upper levels.
"Knowledge is more like a stream than a lake, and sharing it does not decrease it." --Zaitsev
In an atmosphere conducive to learning and sharing, lively participation always provokes itself and warmly envelopes and rewards people at many levels of genuine interest. We strive for those qualities. Either as a result, though probably as a reason, our community is frequented by benevolent souls, feisty spirits and eclectic characters whose experience and knowledge is invaluable and most appreciated.
Discussions, feedback, theories, research, evidence, investigations, stories, experiences, pictures and historical information present here are often honed by and shared amongst individuals and groups cooperatively seeking to preserve and understand. Most humans seem to believe in some form of religion or spirituality; ghosts, spirits, souls and the hereafter are common concepts shared amongst people. This site reflects an universal curiousity, respect for the present and future, and reverence for the past.
While happily diverse, we are all also inescapably similar. Civility, common courtesy and an eager mind that's truly open to learning carries well here, as elsewhere in life.
Welcome. We hope you're excited to join in the fun and help further the excellence.
Site Specifics
This website is an online community with a searchable database and forums of maps, photos, lore and personal experiences of thousands of haunted and historic locations all throughout the country and with an emphasis on the DC, MD, VA area.
Many of these are places anyone may visit; all reveal at least some of their secrets, mysteries and histories. People come here for help, to learn, and to share their experiences and interests among kindred spirits, friends and enthusiasts.
Members are generally friendly and open, and meetups are often organized, with first-hand knowledge, documentation and experience going back decades.
Membership is free, and almost 10,000 members and many tens of thousands of messages --going back years-- give detailed histories and accounts of numerous various haunted and historical locations, including military forts, DC monuments, museums, churches, cemeteries, spooky places, abandoned locations and other little-known and unusual locations. Also detailed are numerous commercial and --when appropriate-- residential hauntings.
Our site supports serious paranormal investigators and enthusiasts, history buffs, sensitives, photographers, explorers, researchers, fans of the macabre and other eclectic individuals and interesting topics.
Welcome
Have genuine interest in the supernatural or paranormal? Welcome.
Our unique community empowers paranormal enthusiasts, researchers, investigators, photographers, explorers, historians, genealogists, and fans of the macabre to share their experiences, photographs and historical information in an inviting, invigorating and intense atmosphere of kindred spirits.

Currently, this site is publicly accessible. Do not attribute material posted by one to all, nor to the site operators or core group.
Diversity is welcomed and encouraged.
Membership Agreement, Terms of Use
In an unsavory past episode that all growing websites must apparently overcome, inevitable personal differences flared up and burned everyone under the guises of debunking, attacks and accusations.
This is not a site for "debunking," a detestable word and concept. The paranormal realm obviously attracts highly passionate, sensitive and even volatile people, some of whom can be highly polarized, polarizing and subjectively "out there". Since it is rarely possible to "prove" anything paranormal, it is therefore equally unlikely to "disprove" it. No one is here for that, anyway.
There are ways to say things --to make any point, or counter-point-- that can either inflame differences and lead to nuclear war or, alternatively, to appeal to nearly universal logic and calm understanding. People can and will make up their own minds, given adequate time, consideration and information. It's often a slow process, sometimes slow as in never.
At any moment, for any concept, at the root of it, each of us either believes or does not believe, per the words of Edgar Cayce: "For the believer no proof is necessary. For the skeptic no proof is possible." Therefore we do not waste our precious lives in bashing, attacking or "debunking" each other, as no worthwhile gain is thereby possible. Instead, we present and discuss evidence; we keep our minds open; we try to imagine things we can not see, including others' viewpoints; we temper raw emotion with thought and kindness. All of us must at least sometimes really work for this. Yet, it is necessary to maintain sanity, suppress false drama, and get along in a shrinking world.
Members who make themselves an unwelcome nuisance or bother will more likely than not experience temporary suspension or permanent exile.
Presence and participation on this site should be thoroughly enjoyed, valued and respected. We strive to make it worthwhile and rewarding. Those who can not or will not abide the basic gist of this concept will be asked nicely once before abruptly being shown the digital door. Please consider this that "nicely once".
On a more tangible level, we do not condone illegal activity. With slight modification, we advocate the simple sense and appeal of 'do unto others --alive or not, or somewhere in between-- as you would have done unto you.'
Broad Guidelines
Members have access as our guests on a subjective and discretionary basis.
- Be honest. Genuine. Yourself. Care. Respect. Appreciate. Enjoy.
- Shine. Think. Question. Discuss. Strive. Do not post garbage.
- Keep it mostly clean. Avoid profanity and vulgarity. Foul words soil all.
- Share thoughts and comments, pro or con, but don't bash. None are perfect.
- Be present as members of the larger community. Share and learn. Be a part.
- Foster discussion, adore quirks, appreciate history, favor intrigue.
- Tread lightly. Keep it moving, lively, interesting. Assist peace, paramount to understanding.
- Do not expect or demand "proof" or "disproof". Be intelligent. Life is grey.
- Civility and Kindness is everyone's virtue and duty.
- No Bozos. Disruptive or disrespectful clowns will be removed. Paranormal is highly personal. Deal with it.
- Broadly, "Materials" are Posts, Pictures, Recordings and other content, textual or digitized likenesses.
- Members are fully responsible for all Materials they post, whether they are the lawful owner or not.
- Members shall document and source all Materials they post if they are not the lawful owner thereof.
- Members shall abide copyright and other applicable laws and not plagiarize Materials.
- Members agree that the posting of Materials conveys to us full, unencumbered rights to use that Material on this website as we wish.
Copyright, Ownership of Materials
The following four paragraphs all elaborate on and clarify the same three basic concepts:
By posting or uploading anything, you (1) retain full responsibility and/or ownership rights while also (2) warranting to us that the Material, if it is not yours, is properly credited and shared pursuant to common sense, best intentions of good will, and all applicable laws including fair use and copyright conventions, or, if the Material belongs to you, that you (3) have the lawful right to upload it and grant to us in perpetuity the unencumbered right to store, transfer and display the Material at our sole discretion.
"Material" is anything sent or uploaded to us: text content, PDF files, pictures, EVP recordings, and any and all other similar content. Uploading Material does not somehow "give it to us", make us responsible for it in any way, or mean that we can suddenly publish it in books. What uploading Material does do is convey your intention and agreement that allows us to store it, transfer it and display it to our visitors or members in any way we wish, for as long and as many times as we wish.
In the past, some people uploaded Material that was not properly credited to its source, while others uploaded Material that they later demanded to have removed. We try our best to accomodate fair and sensible requests, but addressing these types of issues under duress or false urgency destroys goodwill and wastes our valuable time and resources. Therefore, these Terms of Use are meant primarily to establish a mutual understanding and agreement and protect our rights without depriving you of yours as an author and human being.
Bottom line: If you upload something, you intend that we store it, transfer it, and display it to whom and as we wish.
- Basically, when you create something, you own it. When you upload it, you still own it but grant us the right to use it.
- Posting material grants us full rights to use and offer the uploaded material publicly, under restricted access, or as we wish. This does not mean we suddenly somehow own your stuff, only that, by uploading it, you grant us permission to store, transfer and display it to our members and broader audience, at our discretion. It seems very common sensical.
- Posted material must always include its source. Claiming another's work as your own is plagiarism.
- This is a public site. Members remain solely and fully responsible for all materials they post.
- At least try to help improve or advance the human condition. Google's "do good" edict applies, though I prefer "be good, do better."
- Common sense, Kindness, Decency and Access -- Ours is a constructive community. The paranormal is often highly personal and usually involves highly sensitive and passionate people and topics. Kindness and civility all around, despite inevitable disagreements, is necessary to maintain an open atmosphere of learning and sharing. Of course we reserve the right to allow or deny access at any time for any reason, at our sole discretion. Destructively rowdy Members will find themselves temporarily or permanently removed.
- Copyright, Display and Use of Materials -- In accessing this website, you acknowledge and agree: (1) all Material (i.e., textual, pictorial or other digital content) herein is copyrighted with all rights reserved by respective authors and/or contributors; (2) while Material herein may be used for private purposes with proper credit given to its source and this website, no Material may be used without prior written permission for any public or commercial purpose, including but not limited to reposting on websites, blogs or any other media; (3) by uploading Material: (a) you intend that it be shared at our sole discretion; (b) you warrant to us your ownership and right to upload and that you have duly upheld copyright and other laws and have also included sources for work not your own; (c) you grant us full, unencumbered rights to use and display the Material in whatever format and for however long we wish, regardless of your present or future access or status or interest. Use of Material for educational purposes is of course encouraged, but proper credit is always required; nobody likes being slighted or robbed. There's much good Material here that embodies time, effort and money, and we will protect our copyrighted materials and those of our Members and to help ensure proper credit and use. Fair is fair.

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." --Benjamin Franklin
4 years, 3 months, 23 days, 9 hours, 23 minutes until the Mayan end of Age. December 21 2012 (11:11am GMT). The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11 UTC. --wikipedia . All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue."
