SUMMARY: Kidnapped freed blacks were imprisoned in the attic of this home, subjected to brutal torture and resold into slavery. It is said that the sounds of cries, whimpers and chains coming from the attic can be heard to this day. BRIEF: Old stone house that sits overlooking Loch Raven Resevoir SUMMARY: Built in the 1820's, this old stone house is in the Dulany Valley, outside of Baltimore, near Loch Raven Reservoir. It has six bedrooms and baths. BRIEF: Successor to Ford's Theatre SUMMARY: This structure was the successor to the Ford's Theatre facility. Opened in 1887, it was designed and built by John Shaw Billings to house the Army Medical Museum, the Library of the Surgeon General's Office, and some of the medical records. Between 1893 and 1910, it also housed the Army Medical School. BRIEF: Fort Meade has seen many uses and faces over the years. SUMMARY: Fort Meade was constructed in 1917, authorized by an Act of Congress in 1917. The fort was built for troops who were drafted for the war with Europe. Many strange occurrences have happened here throughout the years….. BRIEF: Political humor goes too far, leaves one man dead, and an uneasy ghost lingering. SUMMARY: The Westminster Opera House is more than 100 years old. Plans for the building were drawn up in 1850 by the International Order of Odd Fellows and construction was completed in 1854. It has been used for town meetings and for entertainment. It also was reportedly used by Union Troops during the Civil War.
A comedian, Marshall Buehl from Alabama, was entertaining the audience in the Opera House by telling political jokes. The audience was pro-North and they became irate over his jokes. When he was packing up to leave the town he was attacked by a group of people who stabbed him and left him to die. |
