SUMMARY: This house was built in 1859-1861 for Edward M. Spilman, a judge of the Fauquier County Circuit Court. The Spilman family sold the house in the early 1870s to James Keith, president of the Virginia Court of Appeals, and John Singleton, Mosby's law partner in Warrenton. The history twists soon thereafter.

SUMMARY: Ariana Vanderheyden Jennings lived from 1690 to 1741. She was the grand-daughter of Augustine Herman and grandmother to John Brice III. Mrs. Jennings once had a strange event happen before she went to England. In the twilight of sleep before her trip, she saw a ghostly apparition of a female figure. This female, sitting in Mrs. Jenning's home but under an odd portrait that she'd never seen before, was ill with small pox, as evidenced all over her face. Mrs. Jennings recognized the resemblance of the apparition to the unmarked lady in the picture. Mrs. Jennings had told her husband, John Brice II, about the ghostly apparition and her vision.

SUMMARY: Huge. Deep. Still. Not a smart place to fall into. Numerous dilapidated structures on the quiet grounds form an abandoned, sort of business-town. Now privately owned and rotting away into nothingness, this dying place echoes with the clamor and deeds of a bygone era.

SUMMARY: The house is haunted by a ghostly black woman. Her ghostly apparition has been seen standing by the fireplace looking out a window. She has also been seen walking down the flagstone path from the pig pen to the smoke house.

Called Washington Infirmary, it provided for "the poor, disabled, and infirm persons." In 1842, Congress authorized the conversion of the old jail in the Judiciary Square into a hospital for disabled seamen and soldiers and the insane. Two years later, however, Congress decided that the building was not suitable for that purpose and assigned it to the medical faculty of Columbian College (later became George Washington University).

SUMMARY: It's said that an Old Sea Captain can be found haunting the upper parts of Brigantine Beach. His ghost is said to appear prior to bad storms; apparently, the captain means to warn those on the beach toward higher ground.

The autopsy revealed that he had been shot twice in the head by a gun that was fired while held against his head. The police discovered that his wife had him murdered by her lover.

SUMMARY: Weston, West Virginia is home to the Weston State Hospital. Weston State Hospital, formerly known as the Trans-Allegheny Asylum for the Insane, stands vacant but proud along the banks of the West Fork of the Monongahela River in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia.

SUMMARY: "Suddenly, a few minutes after nine, there was a loud report and an overpowering rush of water, and the men felt themselves being overwhelmed by an avalanche of mud, ore and water. So fast came the flood that it is doubtful whether the men on the upper levels had time to drop their tools and run for their lives to the old shaft. Had any of them reached the perpendicular opening, however, it would have availed them nothing for the shaft known as 'Old No. 1' collapsed as soon as the water reached and undermined its base. This occurred at precisely half past nine, and it was then known to those in charge of the mine that the men in the upper level had been trapped and drowned like rats by an accident which had long been expected."
