SUMMARY: The Wayside Inn is located near the Old Columbia Turnpike, a route that was established in the early 18th century to link the mill town of Ellicott City to Washington, D.C. The Inn has had some very important guests throughout history. George Washington and John Quincy Adams stayed at the Inn.

SUMMARY: The oldest town in Allegany County, Maryland, Oldtown, established in 1741 was once the village of Shawnee King Opessa. The first post office was established in the town on May 26, 1870. The town is located along the historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, in proximity to the Potomac River. George Washington visited the town in 1748.
