BRIEF: After many uses, this house echoes of dark arts SUMMARY: Brandywine lies where the hills of the Piedmont rise from the flat expanse of the Coastal Plain, and it was once the home of the Lenni Lenape Indians. Maryland claimed the land in 1634. For several centuries early settlers found land that offered water power for industry and tidewater for navigation.
The Penny House was built back in 1749 along the Brandywine trail. The house is one of the oldest structures in the entire area. The house and farm land was occupied by the Penny family for more than one hundred years. Arthur Penny was the father of David and William. He farmed the land until his death in 1797. The house then became a cabinet maker's shop from 1798 until 1843. The residence was used as a home, blacksmith shop, cabinet-maker's shop and hostelry. BRIEF: A creepy, rotting old cabin set back in the woods adjacent to a summer camp SUMMARY: Cropsey's cabin is a rotting old cabin set about 30 yards into the woods adjacent to what was a thriving summer camp. Local legend had it that Cropsey was a one-armed loner who may or may not have murdered two young boys who were camping in nearby woods. On occasion, what sounded like moans could be heard from the vicinity of the cabin, and rustling noises were also reported. BRIEF: They've seen and smelled her SUMMARY: The Southern Mansion is said to be haunted by a ghostly spirit named Esther.
