BRIEF: Don't mess with Patty SUMMARY: Patty Cannon led an infamous kidnapping group that stole slaves and sold them. Patty was a large woman standing 6 feet and weighing over 180 pounds. She used her house as the headquarters. Her home was built in the early 19th century. BRIEF: And you thought the Almshouse was bad... SUMMARY: Built in Cockeysville in 1872 along with the Almshouse, the Pest House is separated from the Almshouse by a man-made gulley.
Hospitals did not admit patients with communicable diseases back in 1872. People with contagious and untreatable illnesses such as smallpox, cholera and other serious diseases were segregated and kept at the Pest House. A fence augmented the gulley at that time, and supplies were transferred across via buckets and pullchains. SUMMARY: Founded in 1894 by C. Barnwell Robinson, the United States College of Veterinary Surgeons was located at 222 C Street NW, at the foot of Capitol Hill. (The 200 block of C Street was obliterated by the construction of Interstate 395, and is now covered by United States Labor Department's Frances Perkins Building.) Robinson, a native of Ontario, was an 1882 graduate of the Montreal Veterinary College, where he was taught by Duncan McEachran and William Osler. He was President and Dean from the College's inception until 1924. His son, C. Jabel Robinson, ran the college until its demise in 1927.
