The couple left in a hurry. This is an area where runaway slaves were hung. There is a old plantation mansion located less than a mile from Public Landing and the master would hang his runaway slaves. People report that the runaway slaves had a passageway to the creek to escape and this is the area that the couple saw the ghostly apparition. Local people say the area is haunted by the dead slaves.
