Psy-ops "combined to redefine the parameters of acceptable discourse in America. Principal among the notions placed beyond the Pale was the practice and theory of "conspiracism" -- which soon came to include criticism of mainstream reportage. More than a matter of seeing cabals behind every murder, it was a way of thinking, a stance toward the networks, the press and the feds. Anyone who looked too deeply into events, or who asked too many questions, was dismissed as "a conspiracy theorist." (This, after MK-ULTRA, Iran-Contra, BCCI, and the destruction of the World Trade Centers.) In some ways, it is as if the century itself has been encrypted, so that if an historian would be honest, he must also become an investigative reporter. Failing that, we are left at the mercy of ambitious academicians and journalists, stenographers to power who are themselves complicit in an astonishing string of cover-ups and atrocities that stretch from Dealy Plaza to Watergate, Waco to 9/11." --Peter Levenda

Haunts Database

Davidge Hall

Baltimore City, Maryland
Part of: University of Maryland Baltimore Campus
AKA: UMBC

BRIEF: An unlikely source of "full body."

SUMMARY: "Fred" was the grave robber for the medical school. Sometimes he would dig up a body and place it in a barrel of whiskey, waiting for any moral storm to pass before selling the cadaver to the school. Afterwards, Fred would sell the whiskey to the medical students. Frequent "bits" of stuff floating in the resulting beverages gave birth to the saying "full body." This is were that expression purportedly originated.

Bay Oaks Neighborhood

BRIEF: An old massacre still effects people

SUMMARY: Bay Oaks, an housing development in Lewes, exists at the same location where American Indians massacred members of a then-newly settled Dutch community. The neighborhood appears to be haunted. People have seen orbs floating in the air; streaks of light flash through the sky and inside their homes. Not one, not a few, but over one dozen.

St. Patrick's Rectory

Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland
Part of: St. Patrick's Catholic Church

BRIEF: Sentiment is excited about how the mess of war ensnared and beghosted Francis Gillespie

Hauntings + Histories

At the beginning of my 8th grade education in a Maryland public school, the teacher outlined our syllabus and mentioned that, time permitting, we might study what I scribbled down as "youth in Asia." For most of the year it bothered me intensely that we would plan to spend any time studying children abroad. We did run out of time on studying other things and never got to cover what I later learned was actually euthanasia.

"When you get old, the only things you remember are the things you dared to do and the things you didn't dare to do. All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue." --P.J.
