Ft Howard Exploration, August 4, 2007Man oh man!!! it was so hot, 95 or more in the shade. Until we arrived on the property of Ft Howard. It was glorious there!. A beautiful breeze, just a bit hazy out over the water. What a peice of property. I can see why the contracting people are greedy about this place. It will make them a whole bunch of money!
This is a place Terry loves, (he has a lot of places he has "grown up" with) I love to share these wonderful, interesting places too. We arrived about 12 noon and cruised around the whole property first. Then we stopped and explored each building in its own. The large houses overlooking the water look like my home in New England. I got a bit reminiscent of home.
Several other buildings are totally abandoned, and in different states of disrepair. Many will be coming down with the construction of all the new housing. Such a shame as a rich history will be destroyed.
The large, multi-story brick building which was used as the main hospital looks like a gargantuan whale, floundering on the beach, windows looking out on the water, left to die and fall apart peice by peice. Anyway, the tunnels I spoke to you about are over at the actual fort, not the VA part. HAHAHAH!! Hope you made it over to the fort too, b/c that place is really cool! Nice history!
