History is often made in a moment while hauntings seem to grow over time. This site exists, in part, to support and provide an haven of communication, storage and discussion for investigators, explorers, historians, enthusiasts and addicts of all things paranormal, spiritual, supernatural and scientific.
Paranormal anything is often highly personal and usually emotionally charged. Our purpose is not to necessarily convince anyone of anything, nor to provide yet another avenue of "debunking," nor to promulgate baseless baloney and hogwash, but to simply provide a vibrant forum for gathering and presentation in which members and information may speak freely and constructively. Of particular interest are the quirks and missing pieces, the details otherwise lost to history, and of course the precious facts, stories and experiences. We hope that by bringing people and knowledge together, the inevitable synergies can help enlighten and improve us all.

BRIEF: Like all massive projects, the Pentagon has a most interesting history SUMMARY: The Pentagon's unusual five-sided shape was dictated by the site originally proposed (adjacent to Memorial Drive, about three-fourths of a mile north of where the building was actually constructed). An early plan called for a square structure with one corner cut off to accommodate an existing road. This resulted in a skewed Pentagon shape. Serious objections were raised to locating the building on open land directly between Arlington Cemetery and Washingtons Monumental Core, and discussions ensued regarding selection of a building site resulting in less visual and physical impact from the project. During the debate on the site, the project's chief architects, George Edwin Bergstrom and David J. Witmer, continued to refine the design. The final design retained the five sides, in the form of a true pentagon, which gave rise to the building's name. That shape resulted in the most efficient use of available space. The concept of using several concentric rings to contain the space evolved during further refinement of design. Preliminary design and drafting took just 34 days. BRIEF: Former caretaker still hustles about the church at night. SUMMARY: Zion Lutheren Church in Williamsport, Maryland is haunted by a friendly ghost who sometimes likes to move things to her pleasing. Supposedly a former caretaker of the church and dubbed 'Granny' by the church staff who encounter her today, she can sometimes be heard walking through the church at night. The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next.
